This past weekend Square Enix set Disney and JRPG fanatics’ hearts aflutter by revealing an all-new Toy Story World for Kingdom Hearts III. The Pixar World joins areas based on Big Hero 6, Hercules, and other Disney favorites, and yet, it feels like Kingdom Hearts III is slightly lacking in variety compared to previous entries in the series. So far, only four Disney Worlds have been revealed (check them all out here), and Square Enix is remaining tight-lipped about any additional ones.
Well, in a recent interview with GameSpot, Kingdom Hearts III director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed we’ll be seeing fewer Worlds this time around, but that’s just because he’s packing more into each one.

“I feel like I’ve packed in much more fun than I had in my previous Kingdom Hearts titles. Our directive was to have as many elements [as possible] included in [every] single world, rather than having multiple different little worlds with few elements. We wanted to pack in as many gameplay elements and fun into a single world.”
On the plus side, Nomura promises he won’t be holding back on information regarding the Worlds we will be getting, promising they’ll all be revealed prior to Kingdom Hearts III‘s launch. That said, there may be some more surprises coming via DLC…
“I don’t think we’ll be keeping any worlds secret until the game is released. Nowadays games can add content after the fact through DLC, so there’s no need to hide any worlds. Nothing is set in stone, and I’m afraid we can’t go into details, but I have told the team — Just be prepared to be able to accommodate for [DLC]. It’s not confirming or denying either way, but just so that the development team will be prepared, I have informed them to star making the preparations.”
Not every game is well-suited to DLC, but Kingdom Hearts is kind of perfect for it. Square Enix could just add a new World every six months or so, and fans would snap them up until the end of time.
