New PlayStation Plus Games for October 2025 Come With an Annoying Drawback

The new round of free games on PlayStation Plus for the month of October 2025 come with a pretty annoying drawback. Most of the time, new games on PS Plus tend to go live right around the start of each month. Specifically, the first Tuesday of each month is when PlayStation cycles out the previous month’s free titles and adds the new ones. Unfortunately, with the way October has lined up, this has resulted in the latest trio of PS Plus games arriving far later than we’re used to.

While the calendar has now shifted over to October 2025, the next slate of PS Plus games won’t hit the service for almost another full week. The first Tuesday of October happens to fall far later than normal, which means that Sony won’t be releasing the free PS Plus titles until as late as possible. If you were looking to begin downloading these games and begin playing them this week, you’ll instead have to wait until October 7th to do so.

These PS Plus Games Will Be Worth the Wait

The good news is that even with this prolonged wait, October’s PS Plus games should very much be worth the wait. This month’s lineup is notably headlined by Alan Wake 2, the acclaimed survival-horror game from developer Remedy Entertainment. Alan Wake 2 launched back in 2023 and was met with resounding acclaim, even winning Game of the Year from a handful of different publications. It’s arguably the best game that has been added to PS Plus in the entirety of 2025 and is hitting PS Plus right in time for “spooky season.”

Cocoon is also set to come to PS Plus this month and received quite a bit of acclaim of its own. Also released in 2023, Cocoon comes from publisher Annapurna Interactive and tasks players with solving a series of puzzles in a colorful, mysterious world. It is also created by the designer of Limbo and Inside, making it perfect for fans of these two iconic sidescrollers.

Lastly, Goat Simulator 3 is the final addition to PlayStation Plus in October. While it’s far sillier than the other two games this month, it’s also incredibly popular in its own right, as it gives players the ability to run around an expansive sandbox where they can cause all sorts of chaos. It’s easily the most accessible of the three PS Plus games this month and is worth checking out if you’re looking for something to provide you with a chuckle.
