Yoshi has always been a strong supporting character for Mario, and Nintendo has officially announced the next adventure for this adorable green dinosaur. Nintendo Switch 2 players will be able to dive into this colorful platformer as it is exclusive to this console, meaning Nintendo Switch players will have to make the upgrade if they want to partake. That said, the reveal trailer showcased what players can expect, though there is plenty of time before it launches, so fans will likely learn more as time goes on. It may not be a 3D Yoshi game, but it’s exciting to see Yoshi getting an exclusive game again.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is scheduled to release on Nintendo Switch 2 in the Spring of 2026. It gives off Yoshi’s Story vibes through its presentation and gameplay. The storybook look works perfectly with how Nintendo is setting up the levels as chapters within the book. The aforementioned book is Mister Encyclopedia and appears to be a partner for Yoshi throughout the game.
Mister Encyclopedia, or Mr. E, enlists Yoshi to dive into his pages and discover the worlds and creatures in there. Yoshi can swallow these creatures or allow them to ride on Yoshi’s back. This allows Yoshi to use their powers throughout the world to interact with different objects and open new pathways for platforming. Fans have been used to Yoshi’s movement, but this opens up all new exciting options.
The reveal trailer did not show if there was co-op, but this has been an integral part of past Yoshi games, so it is hard to imagine it won’t be included in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. As the game isn’t launching until next year, Nintendo could reveal this in a future Direct. It could even receive an exclusive Nintendo Direct, similar to Kirby Air Riders did.
Fans will have to wait for more information, sadly. Considering the length of the September Nintendo Direct, there likely won’t be another for quite some time. But the announcement of a new Yoshi game has already sparked excitement. Yoshi has become one of Nintendo’s most beloved characters, and Nintendo Switch 2’s new hardware will unlock new creative possibilities. With a 2026 release on the horizon, fans have plenty of time to speculate on Yoshi’s next platforming adventure.
