Nintendo Switch Exclusive Game Being Removed From eShop This Month

A Nintendo Switch exclusive game is being removed from the Nintendo eShop this month. The new delisting follows a series of delistings, including Nintendo removing one of its own games later this year and a couple of classic games being delisted from the eShop without warning. The former isn’t happening until later this year, while the latter has already happened. This new delisting, however, is imminent. More specifically, it is set to happen on September 19. The good news is that there will be some form of replacement, which is not the case with the aforementioned duo of delistings.

505 Games has specifically announced that the 2019 Nintendo Switch game, Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns, which was never released for any platform beyond the Nintendo Switch, will be removed from sale on September 19. The good news is that it is being replaced by Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition, which features all previous Puzzle Quest games. The bad news is that this compilation release will be more expensive compared to buying just the 2019 Nintendo Switch exclusive by itself. That said, if you already own Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns, you will not only retain this download, which will remain accessible, but you will get an exclusive discount on the new Immortal Edition.

Statement from 505 Games on the Nintendo eShop

“On September 19th, 2025, Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns will be removed from the Nintendo eShop. Owners of the game will still be able to play the game, but the game cannot be purchased beyond this date and will receive no further updates.”

The statement continues: “For players who want to enjoy the full Puzzle Quest experience, we will be launching Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition later in 2025. If you already own Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns then you will receive an exclusive discount for the game when it launches as a thank you for supporting Puzzle Quest in the past. Thank you for your understanding.”

About the Game

Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns, for those that do not know, is traditionally a mix between a puzzle game and an RPG. It debuted back in 2007 with Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. Between this and the 2019 game in question, there were another five releases. Meanwhile, the most recent release came in 2022, in the form of Puzzle Quest 3.

Back when it was released, Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns garnered a solid 78 on Metacritic, and was received fairly warmly by Nintendo Switch users. How many are playing, let alone buying the Switch game in 2025, we do not know. Probably not many. That said, it is the latest installment in the series available on the system, because Puzzle Quest 3 never came to Switch.
