For a while, things didn’t seem to be going so well for Bayonetta creators PlatinumGames – their Xbox One-exclusive title Scalebound was cancelled, and some of their recent work-for-hire games like Star Fox Zero and Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan were disappointments. Some fans worried whether the studio’s demise was imminent.

But then, Platinum pulled a sudden 180! Nier: Automata was released to critical acclaim and healthy sales, Bayonetta and Vanquish were successfully re-released on Steam, and the company seems to be hinting strongly at Bayonetta 3. It’s a Platinum golden age!

Well, it seems like yet another Nintendo collaboration is in the future for the reinvigorated Platinum. Studio head Atsushi Inaba recently spoke with Famitsu about whether Platinum Games and the Nintendo Switch were a good match (thanks to Japanese Nintendo for the translation):

“I think it’s [a good match]. We’ve also already declared we’re going to participate. During the announcement event of Nintendo Switch, you saw the Platinum Games logo showing up secretly.”

Okay, so Platinum likes the Switch in general, but is something actively being worked on?

“We’re creating something, you know. I think it’s going to be interesting.”

Well, there you go! That’s a pretty big get for Nintendo Switch owners. What could Platinum be working on? It could be any number of things – Bayonetta 3, a sequel to Nintendo exclusives like MadWorld or The Wonderful 101, a Star Fox Zero remastering, or something totally original. If Platinum thinks the project is “interesting,” it must be something pretty crazy! Personally, my money’s on something new, or maybe Bayonetta 3.
