We all knew the long-teased Overwatch villain Doomfist would be a badass when he finally arrived, but some feel Blizzard has taken it a little far. Doomfist’s Rocket Punch attack is particularly powerful (or overpowered, depending on your point of view) as it can effectively one-hit kill against most Heroes without much cooldown. Well, thankfully, Blizzard will soon be dialing the Rocket Punch back a bit.

It’s clear Blizzard likes the way Doomfist plays and are reluctant to tone him down, but Overwatch‘s latest Public Test Realm update does make some subtle changes. Specifically, you now have to be more accurate to land a Rocket Punch – Redditor Byboomstick created a GIF demonstrating the changes.

On Overwatch‘s live servers, the Rocket Punch is perhaps a bit too forgiving – you can punch fairly far to the right of left of an opponent and it will still count as a hit. Ah, but in the current PTR version of Overwatch, your punch will whizz right enemies if your punch doesn’t visibly make contact with them. Other than changing its hitbox, it doesn’t seem like Blizzard has altered the Rocket Punch that much – it still has the same four-second cooldown and does the same damage.

This seems like a reasonable compromise. The Rocket Punch is still as powerful as ever, but you need to be more skilled to use it properly. It’s a way of toning down Doomfist without nerfing his core ability too severely. Will this make the guy a little easier to deal with? I suppose we’ll see, although if Doomfist is driving you crazy you can always just take a seat.

Overwatch is available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. You can check out WWG’s coverage of the game, right here.
