Zen Studios has made quite the name for itself over the past few years when it comes to creating memorable pinball experiences, between licensed tables for Marvel, Star Wars, Aliens, Portal and a number of other franchises. But now, it's ready to bump up its pinball game to the next level.

The developer has announced the long-awaited third chapter in its Pinball FX series, and while it's only provided a glimpse at the tables that will be included in the forthcoming collection, it promises to be a big hit with its vast pinball community. Not only that, but it will be adding single player challenges to the game, so that players can get more competitive with their pinball experiences – as if they weren't already with Zen Pinball 2 and Pinball FX2, the company's prior releases.

"Zen Studios has enjoyed a deep conversational relationship with the pinball community for over a decade. We have learned from each other, worked together, and developed a better game together," said Mel Kirk, Vice President of Publishing at Zen Studios. "Pinball FX3 is a milestone step forward for players on console and PC, and I am excited that many of our new features are suggestions from the community. We remain 100% committed to providing our players with an exceptional value, allowing them to bring their collection forward with them as we can all enjoy a host of new features and upgrades together from day one."

According to the company's press release, "While video game pinball has long been a solitary single player experience, Zen Studios has worked to create a new tournament structure that elevates competitive play in an exciting and engaging way. Players will have the ability to create their own pinball tournaments, compete in player vs. player match-ups and leagues, and compete in a variety of score based objectives that refresh constantly so there is always a new challenge awaiting."

The game will launch with three brand new tables, which will be "announced at a later date," and according to the company, a majority of previous Zen Pinball 2 and Pinball FX 2 tables will be able to be ported over to the new version of the game.

A release date hasn't been given yet, but it's expected later this year for Steam, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Check out the teaser trailer above!
