Pokemon Go is FINALLY throwing a new in-game event. The game just announced a new Equinox event designed to get players out and finding new Pokemon for the next two weeks. The event begins on September 22 at 1:00 PM Pacific Time and ends on October 2 at 1:00 PM.

One of the major goals of this new event is to fill out those missing holes in a player’s Pokedex. While this is pure speculation on our part, this could be a hint that Pokemon Go is making progress on the next wave of Pokemon for a release sometime in the next couple of months.

So what does this new event have in store? Keep scrolling down to find out:

Double Stardust

stardust

The big news for veteran Pokemon Go players is that this event will be a “Double Stardust” event. Players will earn twice as much Stardust for catching and hatching Pokemon during the Equinox event.

Stardust is used to level up Pokemon and many players have tapped their Stardust reserves dry while powering up Legendary Pokemon and getting their Raid Teams ready to go. Because Stardust is so relatively scarce in the game, some players have even suggested that Pokemon Go somehow change how it’s distributed to players, even though players can also earn Stardust for feeding Pokemon berries at gyms.

This might not be as exciting as new spawns, but it’s a much needed relief for many Pokemon Go players.

Special Eggs

The other highlight of the new event is that Pokemon Go will distribute special 2 KM eggs at gyms and PokeStops that hatch rare Pokemon. Some of the Pokemon confirmed to hatch from these special eggs include Chansey, Mareep, and Larvitar, although Pokemon Go promises that other Pokemon will also hatch from these special eggs.

Blissey, Ampharos, and Tyranitar are among the rarer Pokemon in Pokemon Go, so these special eggs will give players a chance to stock up on their candy to evolve their Pokemon and complete their collection. For those that already have Blissey or Tyranitar, the eggs will give players a chance to use the candies and Stardust they get from hatching those events to power up those Pokemon even further.

Triple XP for New Pokemon

One of the new “perks” of the Equinox Event is that the game will give out triple XP for registering new Pokemon to your Pokedex. That won’t benefit a lot of players, especially those who have a nearly complete Pokedex, but it could help players that got back into the game with the introduction of Legendary Pokemon earlier this summer.

Most players will have at least one opportunity to add a new Pokemon to their Pokedex, as the event will be underway when the Legendary Beasts Entei, Suicune, and Raikou switch continents at the beginning of October. Players will only have a two day window to catch those Legendary Pokemon, so be sure to keep an eye out on nearby gyms when the Legendaries make their long awaited switch.

A New Item

Pokemon Go is also using the Equinox Event to introduce a new item to the game: the Super Incubator. The Super Incubator will allow players to hatch Pokemon 1.5 times quicker than usual, which means that players can really churn through a lot of 2 KM eggs in a hurry.

The Super Incubators will only be available in special boxes that can be purchased through the in-game store. The boxes will also include Lucky Eggs and Lure Modules, both of which should give you more opportunities to earn XP, catch Pokemon, and get that precious Stardust.

The event starts in just two days, so clear your calendar and get ready for a weekend of Pokemon Go fun.
