Possible New Pokemon Go Event Teased by New Image Asset

Pokemon Go players are excited by the possibility of a new event, thanks to a recently discovered image asset. Late Friday evening, Pokemon Go developers added a t-shirt to the game’s image files showing a logo of the United Nations’ “Global Goals for Sustainable Development” initiative. Pokemon Go has teamed with the Global Goals team before, creating 17 different PokeStops at January’s World Economic Forum to promote each of the initiative’s seventeen different goals.

Some players are speculating that the t-shirt could tie into an upcoming in-game event, the first Pokemon Go has held with months. While Pokemon Go players have had a busy summer catching Legendary Pokemon and participating in raids, the game hasn’t held a good ol’ fashioned event since July, when it released a bunch of “Ash Hat Pikachu” into the wild to celebrate its one year anniversary.

Likely Event Date

While all Pokemon Go has added is a t-shirt, we already have a potential weekend when the event could take place. The UN is holding a Global Goals Week from September 16th-23rd to promote and raise awareness for its initiative.

The Global Goals Week will be a star-studded affair, highlighted by a “Goalkeepers” event on September 19th and 20th. The event will feature former US President Barack Obama, Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, and Bill and Melinda Gates as speakers for the event. If Pokemon Go is going to throw an event, it’ll likely coincide with either the Goalkeeper event or the overall Global Goals Weeks to celebrate the event.

What Are The Global Goals?

Although players will likely take advantage of any event Pokemon Go throws, the Global Goals are a pretty inspirational set of goals. In 2015, 193 different countries pledged to pursue these goals in the hope of creating a sustainable worldwide society and making the world a better place. 

Some of the Global Goals are pretty ambitious, like ending poverty and hunger worldwide, or having enough clean water for everyone. Other goals are a bit more…creative, like figuring out a way to live underwater or creating affordable and sustainable energy.
