A whole new set of Pokemon are coming to Pokemon Go. While we’re still probably a few months away from the release of “Gen 3” Pokemon, it’s never too early to start looking at some of the new Pokemon and see how they might impact the game. We’re going to take a look at all of the Pokemon that will be included in Pokemon Go‘s next wave of releases based on their types.

Today, we’re looking at the new Ice-Type Pokemon that are coming to Pokemon Go. Ice-Type Pokemon are considered to be one of the weakest types of Pokemon, in part because they don’t resist any type of attacks besides their own. However, they do have their uses in Pokemon Go, as they’re one of the few types that can reliably take down Dragonite, one of the most stalwart defenders in the game.

The next wave of Pokemon won’t have many new Ice-Types, but the ones they do add could become useful Pokemon thanks to their advantages over Dragon-Type Pokemon. Here’s what Ice-Type Pokemon are coming to Pokemon Go soon:

Snorunt and Glalie

glalie

The timid, shivering Snoruntย is a prime candidate to become one of Gen 3’s common Pokemon, especially in areas near water where Ice-Type Pokemon seem to spawn. Snoruntย evolves into Glalie, a fearsome looking floating Pokemon that resembles a floating snowball wearing a goalie mask.ย

Glalieย isn’t a particularly powerful Pokemon, although it has very balanced stats. It’s marginally more powerful than Dewgong, so we doubt that it’ll have much of a place in Pokemon Go‘s gym system. If players are looking for a cheap Ice-Type attacker, Glalieย might have some use depending on itsย attack abilities.

That doesn’t mean players should ignore Snoruntย and Glalie, though. Snoruntย has an alternative evolution that appears in Gen 4, so players might want to stock up on Snoruntย Candies while they can.ย

Spheal, Sealeo, and Walrein

spheal

Pokemon Goย will get its first Ice-Type Pokemon with a two tier evolution with the addition of Spheal. As its name suggests, Sphealย is a portly seal-like Pokemon that looks a beach ball with flippers. It eventually evolves into Walrain, a fearsome looking Ice-Type Pokemon with massive tusks.ย

Walrainย has the second highest Stamina stat of any Ice-Type Pokemon and will have the fifth highest Attack stat of any Ice-Type Pokemon. We see Walrainย as a more offensive version of Laprasย with better attack abilities, but marginally weaker defensive abilities. Depending on its moveset, Walrainย could have a lot of usefulness inย Pokemon Go.ย

Regice

regice

Regice is one of the three Legendary Golems, massive Pokemon that were hidden throughout the Hoennย region inย Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. The Legendary Golemsย have always been considered somewhat of a disappointment, as they could easily be defeated by non-Legendary Pokemon.ย

Regiceย and the other Legendary Pokemon might not have much of a place inย Pokemon Go. All three are known for their high defensive stats, which unfortunately can’t be properly utilized as Legendary Pokemon aren’t allowed to defend gyms. And while Regiceย will have the highest CP of any Ice-Type Pokemon inย Pokemon Go, its Attack and Stamina stats are comparable to a Pokemon like Piloswine…which isn’t exactly known as a top tier attacker.ย
