Surprise New Pokemon App Announced

The Pokemon Company surprisingly announced a new mobile app designed for the youngest Pokemon fans. Pokemon Playhouse is a now app designed specifically for 3-5 year olds. Users can interact with Pokemon through eight different minigames, each made for younger Pokemon fans.

Pokemon Playhouse has several different in-game locations, including a tower, lounge, and outdoor playground. Activities include Groooming Pokemon, finding Pokemon in the night sky, or teaching a Pokemon choir how to sing. The game also comes with a special set of picture stories that players can read and/or listen to. Players will also have the ability to hatch a Pokemon egg in the game, which will eventually become a new Pokemon partner.

Over fifty Pokemon appear in Pokemon Playhouse, ranging from perennial favorites like Pikachu to new Pokemon like Rowlet and Litten. All of the Pokemon are animated in a unique, cutesy style that will cause hearts to melt…regardless of how old the Pokemon fan is. The game will also come with a friendly human character that narrates all activities and serves as a host. This means that kids can enjoy Pokemon Playhouse regardless of their learning level. Best of all, the entire app is free and has no in-app purchases!

Although Pokemon Playhouse won’t be terribly exciting for many Pokemon fans, the game represents a definite effort for the franchise to appeal to younger fans. While kids have always loved Pokemon, the franchise has traditionally stuck to a 7 years and older demographic. Finding Pokemon themed toddler clothes is next to impossible, even though many two year olds can recognize Pikachu as easily as they do Mickey Mouse.

Clearly, Pokemon is hoping to turn toddlers and Pre-K kids into fans at an earlier age, which could turn into big money further down the line. After all, the success of Pokemon Go and the resurgence of the franchise in recent years has shown that many people never lose their soft spot for Pokemon.
