Players will have to time their evolutions right if they want to get one of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon's new Pokemon.

Earlier this year, Nintendo revealed that Lycanroc would get a new form in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon to go along with its Midday and Midnight forms. This new "Dusk Form" Lycanroc has aspects of both other forms can use special attacks that were previously exclusive to other Pokemon, and has the special ability Rough Claws that gives its physical attacks a major boost.

However, players won't be able to catch this new Lycanroc in the wild, nor can they simply evolve a Rockruff they find in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. In order to get Dusk Lycanroc, they'll need to evolve a Rockruff with the ability "Own Tempo" between 5 PM and 5:59 PM.

Unfortunately, wild Rockruff don't have the "Own Tempo" ability, but Nintendo is distributing this special Pokemon to anyone who purchases an early copy Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Players who have the game can download the "Own Tempo" Rockruff from the Nintendo Network between now and January 10, 2018.

Once they have Rockruff in their party, they can evolve it by leveling it up to Level 25 during the hour-long window. After Lycanroc evolves, be sure to equip it with the new Lycanium-Z Crystal, which gives it access to the new Z-Move Splintered Stormshards. Not only does Splintered Stormshards do damage, it also removes any special terrain from the battlefield, which makes it especially useful battling the Island Guardians.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon is available in stores now.
