A beloved PS1 game that launched back in 1998 is finally slated to get a new re-release on PS5 and PS4 soon. Thanks to the PlayStation Plus Classics program, Sony has made a much more focused effort over the past couple of years to bring back titles from legacy PlayStation hardware. PS1 games have been a major beneficiary of this, as titles like Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, Myst, Siphon Filter, and many others have already been ported to PS5 and PS4. Now, another game will be joining this lineup of classics, although details of its arrival are still unknown.

Announced by PlayStation this week, the company shared that Tekken 3 will be launching on modern hardware before the end of 2025. The third mainline entry in the Tekken series hit the original PlayStation in 1998 after having first been exclusive to arcades. Details on what this new version of Tekken 3 might have in store haven’t been provided, but it is known to be joining the Classics catalog on PlayStation Plus when it does arrive. More details should likely come about in the weeks ahead.
Tekken 3 Is the Peak of the Series

Tekken 3 is a pretty big addition to PS5 and PS4 for a couple of different reasons. For starters, Tekken 3 is widely considered by many fans to be the best game the series has ever had. This isn’t only true for the PS1 Tekken games, but those that have since come about over the past 25 years. Tekken 3’s Metacritic score backs this up, too, as it sits at a staggering aggregate rating of 96/100.
Beyond this, though, it’s simply great to see that PlayStation isn’t done bringing older Tekken games over to PS5 and PS4. Tekken 2 hit modern PlayStation consoles back in 2022, which resulted in numerous fans requesting that additional Tekken titles be brought over as well. This didn’t happen for years, which made it seem like entries such as Tekken 3, Tekken 4, Tekken 5, and others would be stranded on older hardware. Now, this won’t be the case any longer for Tekken 3, which could prompt other games in the franchise to make the leap to current-gen platforms soon enough.
