Now that the first ever Splatfest has come to a close – with Team Mayonnaise coming out over Team Ketchup by a small percentage (take that, Ketchup!), it’s time to look to the future of Splatoon 2. And based upon a Reddit user named OatmealDome doing a little digging, we’ve got a bright future ahead of us indeed.

According to the user’s findings, there’s plenty of good stuff coming our way, from what they’ve found in the game’s actual coding. First up, there appear to be “incomplete” files for maps from the original game, including Kelp Dome and Blackbelly Skatepark, as well as new ones that are in development, including one that’s called Line and Tunnel. And there appear to be some new Salmon Run stages in the works as well, including ones called Threepoints and Shakehouse, though details have yet to be revealed.
New weapons also appear to be joining the fray as well. We could be seeing a new blaster on the horizon, as well as a new charger and a much improved umbrella (or as some people call it, brella). There’s also talk about a new weapon that’s called the Squeezer, and though the description is a little vague, it appears to be on the semi-auto firing sort of range, and it can apparently be paired up with the Splash Wall and the Sting Ray Special.
Now, Nintendo hasn’t said anything about this content yet, so right now it remains speculation. But the company has noted that the game is set to receive ample support, and thus far, it’s definitely gotten it with new maps and weapons, so this wouldn’t be a complete surprise if it actually happened. More than likely, we’ll see a new Nintendo Direct special surface that will tell us about this incoming content, or Nintendo will post it on their social channels to give fans a heads up. Either way, we’ve got a lot to look forward to leading into the fall season, with plenty of maps and weapons to go around.
Splatoon 2 is available now for Nintendo Switch. Since it’s still a new release Amazon Prime members can save 20% when they order.
(Thanks to DualShockers for the heads up!)
