Resident Evil 2 has a much-anticipated remake on the way, but before that arrives, the game will be receiving a transformation of a different kind. Steamforged Games has announced Resident Evil 2 is getting the board game treatment, with a campaign set to hit Kickstarter later this year. Steamforged creative director Mat Hart had this to say about the horror experience coming to a kitchen table near you.

“It’s a privilege and an honor to be trusted to bring such an important video game to life as a board game. Resident Evil 2 helped to define its own genre of games and has created a lasting legacy in video game history. Steamforged has several Resident Evil super fans on the team and so we have a deep understanding of what makes RE such a compelling game experience; one that still has legions of fans around the world still playing the game nearly two decades after its release. We’re determined to surprise and delight players new and old with this board game realization, even the most hardcore of fans!”
Capcom also seems to be pretty excited about the projectโฆ
“With the Resident Evil brand being Capcom’s most successful IP of all time, we’re delighted to share our support for this exciting new release and are looking forward to seeing the end product from Steamforged Games.”
Steamforged has some experience with tabletop video game adaptations โ they previous made Dark Souls: The Board Game, which raised nearly $5 million on Kickstarter and has received solid reviews since launch. Hopefully they come up with something as interesting for Resident Evil.
No word on what form Resident Evil 2: The Board Game will take, but I’d love if it focused entirely on managing your inventory. Okay, “love” is a strong word, but I’ll definitely chuckle if organizing little green herb tokens is part of the game.
Resident Evil 2: The Board Game hits Kickstarter this Fall. Meanwhile, the Resident Evil 2 video game remake is expected sometime in 2018.
