The publisher has announced that it’s adding the iconic beat-em-up game Streets of Rage to its free mobile line-up, and it should be available a little later today. The game is free-to-download, though players that don’t want to be hit with ads can pay $1.99 through an in-app purchase to remove them.
“Streets of Rage, which was developed by Sega’s AM7 division, was first released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive,” the company noted in its press release. “It is the first installment in the Streets of Rage trilogy and introduces the series’ three main characters โ Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding and Adam Hunter โ all of whom are former police officers pitted against the evil mastermind Mr. X. The game also boasts a critically acclaimed original soundtrack composed by Yuzo Koshiro.”
The game offers cross-platform local multiplayer capabilities, along with online features, including leaderboards, cloud saves and controller support.
This could indicate just the beginning of Streets of Rage‘s legacy on mobile, as there’s a pretty good chance we’ll see Streets of Rage 2 and Streets of Rage 3 following in the months ahead. We’ll see how the first one fares in the meantime.
