A recent announcement from Square Enix has revealed that the formerly mobile-only game Pictlogica Final Fantasy ≒ will be releasing for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan next month.

If you're wondering what that little smudge is after the title of the game, it's not a typo; that symbol is part of the game's name, and it means "approximately equal." The Final Fantasy game was first released back in 2013 for iOS and Android devices and featured plenty of characters that spanned the Final Fantasy series that players could add to their team. It was originally released as a free-to-play game, and once it makes its way onto the Nintendo 3DS, it'll stay free-to-play.

Pictlogica takes a bit of a different approach to the series than the other games, this one incorporating some RPG elements into a game that consists mostly of solving puzzles in a timely manner. Puzzles will be coupled with some quests that players can look to complete, and those quests will often require engaging in some turn-based combat to take out your enemies. Levels, weapons, and skills can be used to customize the members of your team as you take on enemies and employ your fighting tactics to progress, strategies that will seem familiar to Final Fantasy veterans including calling in a Chocobo to rough up your enemy at times.

There are quite a few puzzles to be completed in the Nintendo 3DS version, so players won't have to worry about repeating puzzles too much. Over 300 puzzles are planned to be added to the game, and over 160 characters from the Final Fantasy series will be available to pick from to create the best team possible.

When the game is released on July 12, it'll be an online-only download from the Nindendo eShop. There's no word as of now what kind of timeframe we can expect when it comes to getting the game outside of Japan, but more news related to Piclogica will likely be coming soon.

News of the game's port to the Nintendo 3DS came from Square Enix alongside news of content that Final Fantasy XV will receive later this month, an update that includes a new Regalia and the Episode Prompto DLC.
