2025’s biggest horror game, or at least one of the year’s biggest horror games, is officially Steam Deck Verified, right in time for launch. Before the release of the horror game, there was no word on whether it would be Steam Deck Verified. In fact, it looked like it was only going to be “Playable.” As a result, many horror fans assumed it would not be Steam Deck Verified until some point well after launch, if ever. However, the developer of the game, Bloober Team, had a surprise for Steam Deck users today.

The new Steam Deck Verified game in question is Cronos: The New Dawn, a new survival-horror game out today with Dead Space vibes from developer Bloober Team, the studio best known for the 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2. In addition to Silent Hill 2, you may recognize the studio for its other previous horror games, including Observer, Layers of Fear, Blair Witch, and The Medium. In the horror space, they are one of the bigger and more prolific studios.
Is Cronos: The New Dawn Worth Checking out on Steam Deck?
Those on Steam Deck who want to check out Cronos: The New Dawn will first need to fork over $59.99. Our official review of the game suggests it is not worth this asking price, but its 77 on Metacritic suggests it may be worth dropping the $60 on if the trailer below tickles your fancy. Meanwhile, on Steam itself, it has a “Very Positive” rating thanks to an 84% approval rating. In short, it’s worth checking out, especially if you have enjoyed Bloober Team’s previous horror games — which put more emphasis on story and atmosphere than gameplay — however, also know it has not been everyone’s cup of tea.
What to Expect
For those who do not know what it means for a game to be “Verified” on Steam Deck, it simply means Valve — the makers of Steam Deck and the company behind Steam — has tested the game on Steam Deck, and can ensure the entire game runs on the machine. More than this, it can also guarantee the game works well with the display and built-in controls of the Steam Deck.
If this new release doesn’t pique your interest, the good news is that there are other options. In fact, last month, two of some of the biggest Steam games of 2025 were verified, Peak and Dune: Awakening. That said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think. What PC games have you been playing on your Steam Deck?
