Eager to pick up Super Mario Odyssey and possess – er, I mean, capture – everything you see with the plumber’s new haunted chapeau? Of course, you are! But what if you can’t get your hands on a Nintendo Switch? Shortages may continue for the rest of the year, so you may be out of luck! Well, don’t worry — thanks to a new mod, you can go on an odyssey in the classic Super Mario 64!
For those who haven’t been keeping up with Nintendo‘s latest, Super Mario Odyssey gives you a strange googly-eyed hat (named “Cappy”), which can be tossed onto pretty much anything — enemies, people, various inanimate objects — in order to inhabit them and their powers. It’s a neat mechanic, but not one that reccessarily requires a lot of horsepower. In fact, Mario 64 modder and YouTuber Kaze Emanuar has already fully replicated the hat capture feature. You can check out Super Mario Odyssey 64 in action, above.

As you can see, the mod lets our hero possess Goombas, Bob-Ombs, floating platforms, blocks, and a whole lot more! This mod may give your more freedom than the actual Super Mario Odyssey. You can check out another, slightly earlier demo of the mod, below.
Oh, and Mario’s other hat-related powers are included as well. You can use it to attack enemies, and as a portable platform to get you to otherwise inaccessible areas. This mod is nothing if not thorough!
