The team has announced that it has released a Special Anniversary Edition of the fighting game, which is available today for $59.99. The standard edition has been lowered in price as well, and can be yours for $39.99.

The companies noted the following in its press release:

“With more than 50 fighters, including characters like Rock Howard and Whip, and 3D graphics for the first time in the main series, fans will be able to enjoy everything this legendary title has to offer. Bring the undead Geese Howard to the fight with his “Nightmare” costume or take a retro trip and don Athena Asamiya’s costume from KOF ’98. With 10 new costumes and 4 additional DLC characters, THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV Special Anniversary Edition is the definitive KOF XIV experience. It includes:

  • The entire base game with 50 characters
  • Everything from the 4-character bundle pack (Rock Howard, Vanessa, Ryuji Yamazaki, and Whip)
  • 10 Costumes (Angel Diabla, Kula Sundress, Meitenkun Pajamas, Sylvie Little Red Riding Hood, Classic Iori, Nakoruru Kamuikotan Girls’ School Uniform, Shun’Ei Kung Fu Suit, Athena Asamiya KOF ’98, Classic Kyo, Nightmare Geese)”

So there you have it. A pretty good package considering the price, and you can go either way, with the regular or anniversary edition, depending what you really want out of your fight. Either way, we can’t recommend the game enough, as it brings plenty of old-school fighting bliss to the table, but with great new visuals and a cast of characters that we can’t get enough of.

Here’s hoping that SNK and Atlus don’t wait too long to announce the next great fighting game that it has coming around the corner. We’re crossing our fingers for a new Samurai Shodown (like the older games and not like Sen, please), but we certainly wouldn’t mind a new Garou: Mark of the Wolves as well.

The King of Fighters XIV is available now for PlayStation 4, as well as PC.
