The first game in The Witcher series was released way back in 2007, a year that had no shortage of incredible video game titles and series. But when players got their hand on The Witcher, many recognized that there was something special about the series that would hopefully continue through CD Projekt RED’s games. It seems that they were correct with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt still being regarded as some players’ favorite RPG since it was released two years ago.
It took a while for The Witcher series to make its way to consoles, but when it did, it was received extremely well leading up to the third and most recent Witcher game. The most recent game received numerous awards including game of the year honors and commendations for both the base game and the DLC that most had no reservations about purchasing in order to continue Geralt’s story.
And while Geralt is the main speaker that’s seen in the anniversary video that’s shown above, seeing the hero speaking may be a rough reminder for players who hope to see more of Geralt in the future. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was the last game that’ll cast Geralt as the main character.
That doesn’t mean that the series came to a close with the third Witcher game, however, because there’s a strong possibility that the series will continue on with a new protagonist. Project RED has mentioned in the past that the potential for a fourth Witcher game is definitely there, and with the success of the most recent game, it seems even more likely.
In the anniversary video that was released on Sunday is a heartfelt journey for fans of The Witcher series with huge thanks being given to players who have stuck with the games. Along with the celebratory trailer, a PAX West panel also discussed the series, a panel that can be seen in full here through Twitch.
