When you think “nuclear bunker,” you probably think some kind of dark, bleak room loaded with survival supplies and other goods to keep you from feeling the after-effects of the explosion for a few months – just ask anyone that’s played a Fallout game.

But not Foxtrot-01, one of the Minuteman Missile Launch Sites that are located in the U.S. Instead of having a dark design, this one has…Mario murals?

Yep, the plumber and company grace the walls of this particular bunker, according to Kotaku, going off of a report from an NPR story that was reported back in 2014. Granted, it’s still kind of war-themed – there’s one mural that features Mario and Bowser looking at one another with a mushroom cloud between them – but it’s an interesting design nevertheless.

The NPR story noted, “We pass through a final checkpoint and open the door to the elevator. At the entrance they’ve added a decorative touch: a giant mural of Mario, the cartoon plumber from the video game. At the bottom, Mario stands next to a mushroom cloud. Missile crews are known for their dark humor.”

Cordelia Lynch, a reporter for Sky News, talked about the bunker in a recent report, and, as you can see, there’s a Super Mario 3 inspired art design behind her, similar to the game’s original box art.

While this does seem like an oddball approach when it comes to nuclear strategy, it’s definitely a change worth noting with bunker design.
