Japanese exclusives are certainly something that both Microsoft and Xbox One owners would love to see on the console, but it seems that some Japanese developers aren’t convinced of Microsoft’s support for the endeavor.

NIS America, a publisher known for bringing Japanese titles such as the Disgaea and Danganronpa games to North America, spoke to MCVUK recently about Japanese exclusives on the Xbox One and the reported lack of support from Microsoft.
“Honestly speaking, Microsoft’s approach to Japanese games hasn’t been very supportive,” NIS America president and CEO Takuro Yamashita told MCVUK. “Microsoft, you know, for Japanese games, there’s still a very niche element to them, no matter what it might be.”
Yamashita went on to say that Microsoft’s structure isn’t exactly geared towards niche interests like Japanese titles.
“Microsoft also has a minimum order quantity for their games, and their whole structure isn’t really geared toward niche games or smaller games like Japanese titles, so they’re not really supportive of Japanese games or developers.”
Microsoft Is Working on Getting Japanese Titles
While NIS America’s comments about Microsoft and Japanese exclusives aren’t too reassuring for those who want to see the games on the Xbox One, Xbox boss Phil Spencer seems to be putting in time to make the Japanese Xbox games a reality.
Just recently, Spencer tweetedย that he was heading back to Japan to engage in a series of meetings some Xbox partners, but no specific groups were mentioned.
Always great to be back in Tokyo meeting with partners and team. @Xbox_JP

This wasn’t the first time that Spencer has taken to Japan to discuss business regarding the Xboxย One and its games, but it does carry a positive sign for Japanese games making their way to the Xboxย despite what some devsย have said.
