It looks like the Nintendo Switch is due for an adorable 2018! We already learned we’ll be getting a new Kirby adventure at the Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 event, but it turns out we’re also getting a new Yoshi title! Much like Kirby, the new Yoshi game will have a co-op element and is, of course, stomach-turningly cute. Check out the debut trailer for Yoshi, above.

Yoshi retains the handcrafted look of Yoshi’s Woolly World for the Wii U, but this time around our hero is made of fuzzy plush material instead of yarn. Will Yoshi ever be made of regular old dinosaur flesh again? Unlike Woolly World, which was strictly 2D, Yoshi has diorama-like depth similar to the Paper Mario series. While it would be a stretch to call the game fully 3D, you can now walk and throw eggs into the foreground and background.
As mentioned, the game also features co-op, as you and another Yoshi can team up to take on the game’s challenges. It looks like there will be some levels that benefit from having two players, like one where one player pushes a papercraft giraffe while the other rides. Hopefully, there are more elements like that.
But that’s not all! By but-stomping certain switches, you can flip the world as if it were a book page, reversing everything and giving you a different perspective on the level. Yoshi doesn’t necessarily look like the most ambitious game ever, but like most games in the series, it should be some nice, low-key fun. If its anywhere near as good as the super-underrated Yoshi’s Woolly World, Nintendo Switch owners are in for a good time!
Yoshi flutter jumps onto Nintendo Switch sometime in 2018.
