A shooter and zombie game is now 100% free for all PC users on Steam for the next 48 hours. While the offer is available to all PC users until October 6, Steam Deck users may have issues running the PC game on the Valve handheld. Unfortunately, we do not know either way because the game’s listing mentions Steam Deck compatibility as “Unknown.” The good news is that owners of the handheld machine don’t have to pay anything to find out.

Between now and 1:00 PM EST on October 6, Steam and Steam Deck users can download 2017 shooter Zomborg for free, rather than pay the usual $5 asking price. Developed by GameDevLab — who debuted with the release and hasn’t released anything on Steam since — and published by GrabTheGames, Zomborg has a “Mixed” rating on Steam. This is the result of only 59% of 126 user reviews rating the game positively. This is obviously not the best return, and it’s debatable whether the game is worth even spending $5 on; however, it’s not $5 right now, it’s free. And as a free download, it is worth at least adding to your Steam library.
About the Game
For those who aren’t familiar with the 2017 release, Zomborg is a top-down zombie shooter with both RPG and strategy elements. In the game, you play as highly skilled mercenaries who have been called upon by the United Nations to infiltrate a quarantine zone that has been overrun by a virus and zombies to find out what happened. At the start of the mission, players will select and customize their character and select the AI teammates who will assist them. Meanwhile, there are over 10 weapons to use, so there is even strategy in the weapon choice.
As noted, user reviews are divided on the game. Negative reviews criticize it as an “asset flip” and point out various bugs and issues with the Steam game. Meanwhile, positive reviews note that while the game is simple, and while it does have some issues, it’s still a fun experience, especially as a free game.
“So many people hate on this game, I think it’s fine, I don’t care if it’s an asset flip, it does provide casual fun for a top-down shooter,” reads one of these user reviews. “I got it when it’s free, and honestly, even for the price tag of a few dollars, it’s fine.”
Another user review adds: “Pretty fun little game, controls work perfectly, visual effects, especially during nighttimes, are great. Totally worth getting!”
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation over on the ComicBook Forum. Meanwhile, if this new free Steam game doesn’t tickle your fancy, it’s not the only one recently made available. There is another new free Steam game that has some serious old-school Ratchet and Clank vibes, and this free PC game has a 100% rating.
