Marvel’s Jessica Jones just won its first Emmy Award.

Jessica Jones has already won a Peabody Award and a Hugo Award, and as of last night’s Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony, it can now be called an Emmy-winning series.
Specifically, Sean Callery was awarded the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music. Jessica Jones beat out the title theme music for fellow nominees Narcos, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Whispers, Sense8, and The Night Manager.
Jessica Jones was also nominated for Outstanding Main Title Design. That category was won by Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle.
Callery’s Jessica Jones title theme starts off as a jazzy piece, appropriate for the series noir, private detective setup. The theme transforms into a guitar-heavy, hard rock number by the end, reflecting the personality of Jessica Jones herself.
Jessica Jones stars Krysten Ritter as a superpowered private investigator. Jessica tried the superhero life once but wound up with PTSD after she was mind-controlled by a powered individual called Kilgrave. Jessica Jones Season 1 follows Jessica as her investigations lead her to an inevitable confrontation with her tormentor.
Jessica Jones was renewed for a second season on Netflix, but Ritter will first reprise her role for Marvel’s Defenders, alongside Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Finn Jones as Iron Fist, and Michael Colter as Luke Cage.
Colter debuted as Luke Cage in Jessica Jones Season 1. Luke and Jessica experienced a tumultuous romance that ended with Cage fleeing Hell’s Kitchen for Harlem. Audiences will catch up with him when Luke Cage premieres on Netflix on Sept. 30.
