James Gunn Confirms Ayesha’s Role In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD FOR GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2!

Once the credits had rolled on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and every one of the post credits scenes had aired, fans had a feeling they knew who the villain of Vol. 3 would be. It looked like Ayesha had some bad blood that she wasn’t willing to let go of quite yet.

While her role as a villain in the next movie hasn’t been confirmed, her inclusion has. During an interview with IGN, James Gunn has revealed that Ayesha will indeed be a part of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

“I absolutely plan on bringing Elizabeth Debicki back. She’s actually one of my favorite actors I’ve ever worked with. I think on this movie between her, Pom Klementieff who plays Mantis, and Chris Sullivan who plays Taserface, they really were three of the best actors I’ve ever worked with and were all such a joy on this film to deal with that I would love to deal with them again.”

So, what kind of role will Ayesha have in Vol. 3? The movie takes place more than four years after Vol. 2, so plenty of time will have passed. This gives her the chance to fully create her newest being, Adam Warlock.

This is where her villainous turn is evident. She’s creating Warlock to take down the Guardians. In the comics, Warlock was created by scientists to be the perfect being. However, the scientists started using him in ways he didn’t agree with, and he ended up rebelling against his creators.

This story arc could be the framework for Warlock and Ayesha in Guardians Vol. 3. Say Ayesha is using her creation to fight the Guardians, and he eventually realizes that isn’t right. Warlock could turn on Ayesha, destroy the sovereign, and become the new face of the Marvel Cosmic Universe.

James Gunn is currently writing the third Guardians of the Galaxy film, which is expected to release after the next two Avengers movies.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now playing in theaters.
