The X-Men series is riding high after some of its most successful entries in film as well as an amazing television series on FX. Both Logan and Deadpool established a new standard for the franchise while moving mature takes on superheroes can be wildly successful at the box office, even with an R rating. And Noah Hawley's take on Legion was one of the best new series of the year.
Now FOX is following up with another entry in for television from Burn Notice creator Matt Nix. The Gifted focuses on a family on the run from shadowy government forces after the parents discover their children have mutant powers. Former True Blood actor Stephen Moyer plays one of the parents named Reed Strucker.
Moyer is well versed in X-Men lore, as he should be considering his wife Anna Paquin portrayed Rogue in four different movies. So he understands the fact that his kids are mutants means his character also has the genetic potential to have abilities, as evidenced in his discussion with CTV's etalk.
"I think it's very important that you have an every-man character to attach to the audience in their own way, with myself and Amy Acker's character, who plays my wife," Moyer said. "We are sort of the projection of you, having to deal with what it would be like if you have a kid who display some sort of differences. But as for whether Reed will develop any [powers], I don't know, but you're right. The X-Gene can sort of manifest itself in many, many ways, so if I get to wear spandex and run around with a stripe in my hair, for instance, I would be quite happy with that!"
Stripe in his hair? Either Moyer is making a casual reference to his wife's former character or he just confirmed himself to be playing X-Man (just kidding)!
We can expect to learn more about these characters and Reed's potential to be a mutant when The Gifted premieres this fall.

The Gifted tells the story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers.
Reed (Stephen Moyer, Shots Fired, True Blood) and Caitlin (Amy Acker, Person of Interest, Angel) Strucker are typical middle-class parents dealing with the realities of raising a family. However, when their teenage kids, Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind, Gotham) and ANDY (Percy Hynes White, Night at the Museum 3), are involved in an incident at their high school which reveals they are mutants, Reed and Caitlin do all in their power to protect their children. Forced to go on the run, the Struckers must leave behind their old lives to flee from a relentless government agency that tracks down mutants, the Sentinel Services, which includes Agent Jace Turner (Coby Bell, Burn Notice). Complicating matters further is the fact that Reed is a prosecutor in the district attorney's office tasked with going after mutants.
Desperate and running low on options, the family's only choice is to contact an underground network that helps mutants in trouble. The mutants in the network – Eclipse / Marcos Diaz (Sean Teale, Reign), Blink / Clarice Fong (Jamie Chung, Gotham), Polaris / Lorna Dane (Emma Dumont, Aquarius) and Thunderbird / John Proudstar (Blair Redford, Satisfaction) – are dealing with their own issues. With one of their members in prison and their team possibly compromised, they face an uncertain future in a world that looks increasingly dangerous for mutants.
