So far, there are very few details about Gurira’s involvement available, but Deadline speculates the actress is being brought in to reprise her Black Panther role as Okoye. The Walking Dead star was brought into Marvel last year to portray the fierce Dora Milaje warrior. Gurira is one of several actresses playing one of T’Challa’s guards as Lupita Nyong’o will play Nakia and Florence Kasumba will play Ayo.
News of Gurira’s casting in Avengers: Infinity War comes shortly after Chadwick Boseman confirmed the film will feature the Black Panther. The leading man shared a photo on Twitter from the set of the Marvel film which showed his character’s cast chair. The directors of Avengers: Infinity War have also teased fans online that the film has shifted its filming sites to Wakanda. The Russo Brothers posted a picture on Instagram the other day which showed them filming in a grassy area. The pair captioned the phone with a reference to the Serengeti, alluding to Wakanda’s location in Africa.
