One of Marvel Comics’ most successful trade paperbacks in recent years depicts Deadpool (shocking, we know) killing the Marvel Universe. It’s a story aptly titled Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe, created by Cullen Bunn, Dalibor Talajic, Lee Loughridge, and Joe Sabino.

Marvel wants to capitalize on that success, reuniting the major players from that team in Bunn and Talajic โ€” along with Goran Sudลพuka, Miroslav Mrva, and Joe Sabino โ€” for the new series Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe Again.

Instead of being a direct sequel to the first series, the new comic instead works as an updated version set in the modern Marvel Universe. That means Sam Wilson as Captain America, Jane Foster as Thor, the Uncanny Avengers, and other current changes in place of the classic characters used in the previous series.

Deadpool racks an impressive body count in the first issue alone, just released on July 5. A group of the Marvel Universe’s best investigators and detectives work to discover just who is killing the greatest heroes, as well as why.

Jessica Jones, Cable, Moon Knight, Misty Knight, Kate Bishop, and the Punisher investigate the most recent massacre, where they discover Deadpool murdered his teammates in the Uncanny Avengers.

But that’s not all, as he also moves on to the various demigods in Marvel’s pantheon.

Here’s everyone who bites the dust in this first issue of Marvel Kills The Marvel Universe Again:

  • Gambit
  • MODOK
  • Doctor Voodoo
  • Rogue
  • Quicksilver
  • Synapse
  • Thor
  • Loki
  • Hercules
  • Valkyrie
  • Hippolyta
  • Ganesha

It’s an impressive opening salvo and immediately captures the attentions of the investigators looking to bring him to justice. But perhaps most interesting are the cabal of villains who have united together to make it happenโ€ฆ

Including the Red Skull, Magneto, Dr. Doom, the Abomination, and countless others displayed on video screens around them.

All in all, the series is shaping up to be a violent and deadly campaign by Deadpool against the many heroes he once revered.

Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe Again #1 is in stores today.
