Get Out, the directorial debut of Jordan Peele, opened in theaters on Thursday night and will easily win the weekend box office with an estimated $30.5 million. The funny, scary, and thought-provoking film has earned huge praise from both film critics — who gave it the rare 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes — and general audiences, who gave it an ‘A-‘ CinemaScore (a rare score for a horror film).

Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) went to go see the movie on its opening night because she was interested in it ever since she saw its first trailer. However, that wasn’t the only reason. She also saw it because its star, Daniel Kaluuya (Black Mirror), is co-starring with her in Black Panther. To support him and the film, Nyong’o gathered members of the cast and crew of the Marvel film, which is currently filming in Atlanta, and went to see Get Out again today.
“Dear All People, R U N to the cinema and see GET OUT! A horror film literally like no other,” Nyong’o wrote, after seeing it the first time. “I was gripped, terrified and even tickled from beginning to end. I have been waiting for this film since I watched a trailer late last year, and Jordan Peele’s directorial debut does not disappoint! Shout out to my fellow Wakandan, Daniel Kaluuya who gives an arresting, nuanced performance. ‘Just because you’re invited, doesn’t mean you’re welcome.’”

Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the events of Captain America: Civil War, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.
The film stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira , Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis. Additional cast members include Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Sterling K. Brown, and John Kani.
Ryan Coogler directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole.
