When Iron Man 2 was in the works, fans learned Marvel Studios would be bringing Natasha Romanoff to its growing cinematic universe. Johannson was the Hollywood heavyweight tapped for the role, but Black Widow’s costume initially made the starlet pause. In an appearance on Bravo’s Inside the Actors Studios, the actress revealed her fears about wearing Black Widow’s sleek suit.

“Look at that thing. I mean, who wants to get into something like that?” Johansson started.
“You just think, ‘Oh god, really? Couldn’t it have, like I don’t know, some sort of a peplum skirt or something?’ This thing is like very: there you are. It was also everything it represented. The character was so beloved. She’s an iconic character. And I didn’t know how people were going to take it. What the hell was I doing in this franchise? It was daunting.”
There is little reason to doubt Johansson’s discomfort over the suit, not when fans can see how tight Black Widow’s gear really is. Natasha originally entered the MCU under the guise of a prim assistant, but Black Widow eventually made her spy identity known. Johansson dons the hero’s costume for the first time when she goes up against a slew of spies, and the tight bodysuit clung to the actress like a second skin.
Johansson’s costume isn’t the only suit that has garnered complaints. Acting in a Marvel or DC film may be a dream come true for many stars, but the outfits which come with the gigs are less-than-ideal. Recently, Michele Pfeiffer opened up about how her tenure as Catwoman in Batman Returns required her to be vacuumed into the leather get-up. Olivia Munn also experienced a similar problem with her Psylocke costume; The X-Men: Apocalypse actress needed two assistants and a few gallons of lube to get into the latex number.
Women are not the only ones who have it rough with their superhero costumes. Male suits may cover more skin, but that doesn’t mean they are any more comfortable. Tom Holland is the most recent Marvel actor to complain about his suit as his Spider-Man costume was all but impossible to get out of. Tom Hiddleston has also raised complaints in the past about how heavy Loki’s gear is since the cumbersome outfit was apparently hot to wear.
