Earlier this month, the holiday season kicked off to a stellar start when Marvel Studios released a trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The action-packed footage saw characters like Star-Lord, Gamora, and Baby Groot fighting aliens and swapping jokes to the delight of fans – but there was one character who stole the show. At the trailer’s end, fans watched as Drax the Destroyer exploded into a fit of laughter, and now the film’s director thinks the lovably obtuse hero may be next year’s toy craze.

Recently, James Gunn took to Twitter to answer a fan’s question about Laughing Drax. The fan wanted to know whether there were plans for a laughing Drax today since it could be the sequel’s Dancing Groot. The director answered, tweeting, “That is honestly a great idea. What do you think [Marvel Studios?]”

Of course, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be well aware of how popular Dancing Groot became after Guardians of the Galaxy debuted. The film’s sapling stole hearts at the film’s end when he was seen dancing to Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.” Dozens of toys such as Funko Pop! Vinyls and robotic chargers were made which bared the baby’s likeness, so who knows?

Next year, we may just see Elmo’s throne threatened by Drax for the best laughing toy of the year. Tickle-Me-Elmo might not stand a chance to a chortling Drax.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
