Dave Bautista‘s Drax was one of the biggest surprises in the original Guardians, and he shines yet again in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. That said, there are a few people he wants to see in Vol. 3.

The talented actor spoke to THR about a potential storyline he would love to see explored in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, characters that hit close to home for his character. “I’m hoping they’ll tell a little bit more of his backstory, with his wife and his daughter, even though it’s a hard subject. It’s a downer. I know they don’t want to take the Guardians too much in that direction. I think it would be really interesting if people could put the visual reference to his wife and his daughter. I’d love for [the fans] to be able to see them.”
Drax’s wife and daughter were both killed by Thanos, a plot point which was touched on in the original Guardians a few times. They never actually showed it though, or any of his previous life. While it is darker subject matter, it would worthwhile to explore further.
Bautista also touched on the anxiety that comes with delivering a sequel to a popular film, now that people know just what the Guardians are capable of. “People didn’t expect much from the first film. It so over-performed. Now they expect us to over perform,” he told a group of reporters. “On the first film all we really had to do was show everybody that we made a beautiful film and since it did so well, now people are expecting it. It’s a little bit of anxiety living up to that. At the end of the day, I really believe in this film, so I think people will come out and see it and hopefully be happy with it. I love it. I think it’s better than the first one.”
