Doctor Doom is an intimidating fellow, and that reverence even translates to Skottie Young’s version, though you still sort of want to hug him. Probably a bad idea.

The talented artist has crafted two new variant covers for two of Marvel’s upcoming series launches, including The Infamous Iron Man #1 and Doctor Strange and the Sorcerors Supreme #1. While Doom gets to just stand there and look menacing, Strange is running for his life amidst a trail of flying bunnies, top hats, and bowling pins. Not exactly living up to that Sorceror Supreme moniker at the moment.
You’ll be able to grab the Infamous Iron Man #1 cover when the book launches on October 19th. Infamous is written by scribe Brian Michael Bendis, with frequent collaborator Alex Maleev joining him once again on art duties.
Bendis previously discussed Doom’s good intentions in regards to the book but admitted that his version of good and our version are two very different things.
“Yeah. Number one, his version of good may not be our version of good. And his version of heroic may not be our version of heroic and maybe he’s the hero we need right now or maybe he’s the opposite. Doom is very good at a lot of things. He’s very smart, learned, studied; a sorcerer and a scientist. But there are things he’s not good at such as intimate communication, selfless acts of heroism. These are new things in the context of his life and it’ll be interesting to watch him maybe mess up and have Doom handle that. Not well. I’ll tell you that.”
The second cover will be available when Doctor Strange and the Sorcerors Supreme #1 hits shelves on October 26, and the book will be written by Robbie Thompson with art from Javier Rodriguez. In a previous interview, Thompson filled us in on the book’s premise.
“The book spins out of the events of “Last Days of Magic.” Emperikul’s quest to destroy all magic has loosed a magical menace called The Forgotten. The Forgotten travels back to Merlin’s time, and Merlin, outgunned, reaches out for helpโthroughout timeโassembling a group of Sorcerers Supreme to help him battle this mystical monster.”
