Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now in theaters, giving fans the next chapter of James Gunn’s oddball space family saga, as well as the next chapter in the cosmic sector of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
There were plenty of surprises in GotGV2 – iconic Marvel character cameos, fun celebrity cameos, and some big reveals. One of the final character reveals was so obscure (yet potentially important for the future of the MCU) that it probably went right over a lot of viewers’ heads. Luckily for them, we’re here to explain.

Did you Spot the Doctor Strange Connection in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2? Let’s break it down in all its SPOILER glory!
Krugarr, The Sorcerer Supreme
During multiple End Credits scenes forย Guardians of the Galaxy, we get another look at Sylvester Stallone’s Stakar Ogordย and his inner circle of Ravagers. Those elder Ravagers are, in fact, the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the originalย Guardians of the Galaxy comic book team (from the ’70s); along with them, we get appearances from other obscureย Guardiansย comic book characters – and one of the final characters we meet is Krugarr.ย
Krugarr is a worm-like alien from the race known at the Lem,ย and he first appeared inย Guardians of the Galaxyย Annual #1 in 1991. The ย big Marvel Movie connection here is that, in the comics, Krugarr was discovered and trained by none other than a future version of Doctor Strange!ย Krugarrย became the Sorcerer Supreme of his future era, mastering the mystic arts and even doing battle with the like of Dormammu.
In the MCU, Krugarrย is a CGIย alien who doesn’t yet have a voice actor, but clearly displayed mystical ability in his brief post-credits scene cameo, as he moves his hands and generates the sort of visual effects for spellcasting that we saw in theย Doctor Strangeย movie.ย
So what does it mean that an alien being is also trained in the same mystic arts as Earth’s protectors? Future MCUย movies (and TV shows?) will have to answer that mystery…ย
