The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for loving easter eggs, but no series takes it further than Guardians of the Galaxy. The intergalactic franchise looks poking fun at all of pop culture with self-aware zingers. The original Guardians film did not shy away from toy crazes like Trollz or classic music tracks like “Hooked On A Feeling.” So, of course, the second Guardians film will also revel in its easter eggs.
When the second film drops this May, fans will flock to theaters and keep an eye out for any rogue references. Trailers for the film have already dropped and given fans a look at a few cursory easter eggs. But, when the theatrical cut of Guardians makes its debut, Gunn says fans better be watching closely from the get-go. After all, the film’s first easter egg takes place within the first ten shots.

Speaking with Fandango, James Gunn talked about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and how he saw it fitting into the ever-expanding MCU. It was there the director was asked about easter eggs, and Gunn dropped a hint as to where the first one is in the film.
“I guess it depends on what you call an Easter egg, but there’s definitely a very, very distinctly cool Easter egg that’s like the fourth shot [of the movie],” Gunn told the site.
“It’s a very cool Easter egg very early in the movie. Something that fans of mine will recognize from other films.”
In the past, Gunn did tell fans they should expect the sequel to be packed with easter eggs. Talking to ComicBook, the director said he wanted amateur sleuths to have fun with the movie as they combed it for references.
“Oh my God. Our Easter egg obsession is insane. And in fact I have the dumbest Easter egg. We have so many incredibly obscure Easter eggs in this movie that it’s ridiculous. Yeah, we’ve been working hard on the Easter eggs. I feel this need to do it now since people have been pouring over stuff so much.”
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
