By now, thousands of people have already binged the first season of Iron Fist in preparation of The Defenders. The martial arts vigilante has garnered himself mixed reviews from both fans and critics, but audiences have given Iron Fist their good grace so far. Of course, the show’s use of easter eggs has not hurt its reputation. Fans of the MCU are dedicated hunters when it comes to spotting subtle connections. And, now, netizens have discovered one surprising easter egg which ties Luke Cage to Iron Fist.

Over on Reddit, user @Assassin1and2 shared a little-known fact with the Internet. In Iron Fist, fans are introduced to one of Colleen Wing’s students Darryl – but the kid first appeared in Luke Cage. The latter series included Darryl in episode 10, “Take It Personal.” In Luke Cage, the boy found himself arrested by police after the Harlem hero was framed for a cop killing. Clearly, the situation eventually resolved itself, but Darryl’s fate was never expounded upon.

That is, until Iron Fist came about.

In the credits, Marquis Rodriguez is credited for playing Darryl in both shows. The character is also one that will have a larger role in the MCU’s future. If you have seen all of Iron Fist, you know how Darryl ends up. The boy is a gifted student under Colleen, but he is turned by The Hand. Bakuto manages to convert Darryl to the organization’s cause before Colleen can interfere, and the student is left injured by the show’s end. However, Bakuto orders the boy to get patched up since Darryl will be The Hand’s “future.”

Fifteen years after being presumed dead in a plane crash, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) mysteriously returns to New York City determined to reclaim his birthright and family company. However, when a long-destined enemy rises in New York, this living weapon is forced to choose between his family’s legacy and his duties as the Iron Fist.

Marvel’s Iron Fist was developed by Scott Buck. The Netflix series stars Finn Jones as Danny Rand, a martial arts expert with the ability to call upon the power of the Iron Fist. The cast also includes Jessica Henwick, David Wenham, Jessica Stroup, Tom Pelphrey, and Rosario Dawson.
