Magik will soon be coming to the X-Men movie universe courtesy of actress Anya Taylor-Joy. While it will be some time before fans see what she will look like in the film, it gives the perfect opportunity to celebrate some amazing Cosplay.

Magik, who’s real name is Illyana Rasputin, is quite popular in the books these days, and has been for some time. There are some fantastic Magik Cosplays out there, but for today the focus is on one of the best interpretations so far by Cosplayer Axe Massacre. Together with the talented photographers of “I Got Superpowers” she’s created an insanely impressive version of the fan favorite X-Man.

This costume is based on the more modern version of the character, which is a more goth like look complete with her trademark headdress and soulsword. The team even threw in some stellar fire and lighting effects for her soulsword to complete the look. It’s doubtful that the movie version will sport this costume, but the two successfully brought the comic version to life. You can view some highlights of the set in the gallery, but make sure to head to their respective pages for more.

You can find more of Axe Massacre’s work on Facebook and Twitter. You can find more Magik photos and Cosplay photos in general on I Got Superpowers’ official website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Illyana didn’t start out with these powers, instead gaining them when the sorcerer Belasco kidnapped her. He attempted to use her as a conduit for his masters, turning her into the demonic Darkchilde. In his quest to do so he gave her an impressive power set, but it backfired on him when she turned and almost eliminated him instead. She didn’t though, successfully holding on to her humanity and taking control of Limbo for herself. She’s now able to teleport others to places through her connection to Limbo, and even housed the entirety of the X-Men there during the Inhumans War. Magik also has the incredibly powerful soulsword at her disposal, creating one of the most powerful (and at times unpredictable) X-Men in existence.

It will be interesting to see how much of this is integrated into the film version of the character, or if they decide to take a different tact altogether. Hopefully, that’s not the case, as many would be disappointed if some of the most interesting parts of her backstory aren’t included in the upcoming project.
