Weapon X #1 will release in spring 2017. The teaser released featured images of Wolverine – the original, not Old Man Logan or All-New Wolverine – that harkens back to the original Barry Windsor-Smith “Weapon X” story that revealed how Wolverine’s skeleton was coated in adamantium.
The teaser also features Deadpool, Sabretooth, X-23, Sauron, and Wildchild. These are all characters who have a history with the shadowy Weapon X program, but whether the teaser is meant to imply they’ll be joining forces or is simply trying to remind potential readers of the Weapon X program’s history remains to be seen.

Weaponx X is a program started by the Canadian government’s Department K that specializes in creating human and mutant superweapons. Weapon X tends to use mutants in their experiments because of their “baked in” enhancements. For example, Wolverine’s powerful healing factor is the only reason he was able to survive “Experiment X,” the process that imbued him with adamantium. Wolverine, Sabretooth, Deadpool and X-23 and just some of Weapon X’s better knowsubjects.
Grant Morrison’s New X-Men series further delved into the programs history, revealing that the “X” designation in “Weapon X” did not refer to the letter “X,” but the roman numeral for “10,” making the program “Weapon 10.” Several other programs in the series also existed, including Weapon I, which was the Super Soldier Program that created Captain America, and Weapon XIII, the program that produced Fantomex.
