Later this year, Netflix has plans to follow-up its release of Iron Fist with a couple more Marvel series. Before the Punisher sees his solo show go live, Marvel’s The Defenders will premiere and bring together Netflix’s existing superhero squad. Vigilantes like Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist will team up to defend their city against a new threat whose played by Sigourney Weaver. The mash-up will blend together the best parts of each hero’s standalone series, but there is one element which co-showrunner Marco Ramirez got emphasized in particular.

So, if you’ve been looking forward to seeing the heroes’ fight styles blend, then it is time you got hyped.

Recently, Ramirez spoke with the Los Angeles Times about his involvement with The Defenders. It was there the executive said the show’s fight choreography was a major focus during development, and he even described how each vigilante’s style breaks down.

“He’s the guy who will cover a child, he will use his body defensively,” Ramirez said about Luke Cage. As for Daredevil, the executive said the vigilante simply hoped every punch he throws will be the last.

Of course, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen isn’t the only hero who just wants the fight to be done with. Jessica Jones is another member of the Defenders who isn’t keen to drag out a brawl. Ramirez said the heroine takes no joy in fighting. “That, as an attitude, is so much fun to watch once she’s fighting,” he admits.

And, when it comes to the Immortal Iron Fist, the martial artist tends to get a bit unruly. Ramirez described the vigilante’s style as such: “Danny Rand is kind of hot-headed, a little more naรฏve than the others. He’s very eager and gets himself into fights and bites off more than he can chew, a lot.”

Aside from fighting styles, The Defenders promises to tie in other elements of Marvel’s solo series. Ramirez said the mash-up lets him borrow music from Luke Cage and lean into Jessica Jones’ noir tone. And, most importantly, the characters will get to experience each others’ colorful personalities firsthand. In fact, Ramirez said one of his favorite creative bits was working on the one-liners Jessica Jones would sling at the vigilante group.

“It was as exciting as doing big fight scenes. ‘How will JJ make fun of everyone else in the room?’ was a primary focus at all times,” he explained. “In some ways she gets to be our Han Solo, the regular grounded person’s way into this world. I think one of the great joys of the show is watching them interact.”

Marvel’s The Defenders is the miniseries that will bring together all of Marvel’s Netflix stars, including Iron Fist (Finn Jones) Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), and Luke Cage (Mike Colter), to protect New York City from its greatest threat yet.

Marvel’s The Defenders is developed by Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez. The miniseries will also feature Sigourney Weaver as the villain, Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver), and several recurring guest stars from Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Luke Cage, and Marvel’s Iron Fist, including Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, Scott Glenn as Stick, Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.
