New ‘The Punisher’ Photos Released

New photos from Marvel’s The Punisher series have been released.

The images arrive with the new issue of Empire magazine. In them, Jon Bernthal is in character as Frank Castle, and the magazine offers looks at him both in action and in full costume.

Bernthal’s Punisher was first seen in the second season of Daredevil, but he sat out the following Defenders ensemble series. Footage from the new series, however, was shown to an excited crowd at San Diego Comic-Con, showcasing just how brutal Bernthal’s character will be.

Of the photos in the tweet above, the look at Frank Castle’s flashback sequence confirms we will see the character’s history as a soldier. We also see the same photo of Castle’s full skull logo costume. The new photos, however, see Bernthal’s Castle having a drink and taking some direction and the other sees him in the snow ready to snipe an enemy. Based on the Comic-Con footage, he might be aiming at someone who is literally in another country.

“Part of this season for Frank is [about how] he’s built this wall around his heart,” Bernthal said. “He’s starting to care about things, and people.”

“There’s going to be an attempt to move beyond the Punisher, but that’s something he can’t shake,” he continued. “There’s part of me that’s hungry to something he can’t shake. There’s part of me that’s hungry to get back into the darkness, that’s excited to see it fall apart. And I’ll go back to my long walks.”

There is no word yet on when The Punisher will arrive on Netflix.
