In June 2014, when it was first revealed that Scott Derrickson would helm Marvel’s Doctor Strange, many people questioned the selection, expressing concern that a filmmaker best known for directing horror films — such as Hellraiser: Inferno (2000), The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005), Sinister (2012), and Deliver Us from Evil (2014) — was up for the task.

Even at that time, questioning Marvel’s decision making seemed silly. The studio has a great record with making uncovential choices with their directors. And as we now know today, Derrickson was indeed another perfect “outside-the-box” choice. Doctor Strange has received an ‘A’ CinemaScore from moviegoers, earned an 85% “fresh” rating from top critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and has surpassed $500 million at the worldwide box office.

With that out of the way, let’s take a look at a cool fan-made poster — created by tclarke597 of Deviant Art — that mashes-up two of Derrickson’s films: Sinister and Doctor Strange. The original Sinister poster that this is based on featured a young girl in white pyjamas smearing blood across a wall, and the source of that blood comes from a bloody-image of the evil entity known as Mr. Boogie. However, for this mash-up, Doctor Strange has replaced the girl and one his magical portals has replaced Mr. Boogie. Additionally, the poster’s original “Once you see him, nothing can save you.” tagline has been appropiately changed to: “Open your mind. Change your reality.”

From Marvel comes DOCTOR STRANGE, the story of world-famous neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange whose life changes forever after a horrific car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he is forced to look for healing, and hope, in an unlikely place – a mysterious enclave known as Kamar-Taj. He quickly learns that this is not just a center for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality. Before long Strange – armed with newly acquired magical powers – is forced to choose whether to return to his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence. Join Strange on his dangerous, mystifying, and totally mind-bending journey.

The cast features Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Star Into Darkness, The Imitation Game), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Rachel McAdams (Sherlock Holmes), Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man), Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale), and Tilda Swinton (The Grand Budapest Hotel).

The film is directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister) and written by Derrickson, Jon Spaihts (Prometheus), and C. Robert Cargill (Sinister).

Marvel’s Doctor Strange is produced by Kevin Feige with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Charles Newirth, Stephen Broussard and Stan Lee serving as executive producers.
