As we learn more and more story details and meet some new Marvel Cinematic Universe characters (and villains!), discerning fans are already picking out some nice Marvel Easter eggs in the Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer footage!

In the sequence set on the Staten Island Ferry, we see Spider-Man taking on two bad guys moving some king of illegal weapons (based on the dialogue). Spidey dispatches the thugs with some awesome (and iconic) webbing tricks.

Somehow, one eagle-journalist (Mike Sampson of Alamo Drafthouse) spotted something in the background of that action sequence: the license plate on a car loaded on the ferry, which makes reference to a very specific issue of Marvel Comics.

As director Jon Watts confirmed:

In Spider-Man: Homecoming, a young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine โ€“ distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man โ€“ but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

The cast includes Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr. It also includes Jon Favreau, Martin Starr, Kenneth Choi, Michael Mando, Selenis Leyva, Isabella Amara, Jorge Lendeborg, Jr., JJ Totah, and Hannibal Buress.

Spider-Man: Homecoming opens in theaters July 7, 2017. It currently holds an impressive 4.07/5 in our user anticipation ratings – but hat number may rise significantly with the release of the new trailer!
