Meet The Mutant Hunters Of Sentinel Services In ‘The Gifted’

Mutants in the Marvel Universe are often divided by factions of ideologies, but all groups are threatened by those who hate and fear them.

In FOX‘s upcoming series The Gifted, mutant existence is essentially a criminal act. Though there are some who are willing to help those with abilities, they are all hunted by a police force known as Sentinel Services.

FOX released a new video focusing on the antagonists of the new series, who use mutant-hunting spider drones to capture those on the run. Check it out above.

“The Sentinel Services are basically a high level government agency that deals with mutant issues, mutant powers,” said Coby Bell, who plays the mutant-hunting Jace Turner in the new series. “They go around kind of operating above the law.”

In the show, Turner works alongside Reed Strucker, who is shown attempting to interrogate Polaris in the first episode.

But Reed’s children both have the X gene. Though his daughter Lauren hones and hides her ailitiesb, son Andy’s powers manifest when he’s being bullied at a school dance, causing him to lash out and nearly destroy the entire building.

The incident causes the family to go on the run, with Reed forced to abandon his principals for the sake of his kids and question everything he thought he believed in.

“Agent Jace Turner works for the Sentinel Services,” said series creator Matt Nix. “And in encountering the Struckers he’s finding he has to go after children.”

Mutants who are captured are sent to the Mutant Detention Center, where Polaris gets locked up, and many of the cast members agree it is an awful place.

To locate and capture mutants, they have advanced technology that precursors the giant Sentinels comic and movie fans have seen.

The Sentinels in The Gifted are spider-like drones that detect mutant genes and incapacitate suspects so they can be incarcerated.

It sounds like the Strucker family and their renegade mutant allies will have a lot to contend with in their quest to find sanctuary. Follow along when The Gifted premieres Monday, October 2 on FOX.
