Korg, the lovable rock-man voiced by director Taika Waititi, stole the hearts of audience members over the weekend by bringing the laughs with just about every line he spoke. What many thought could just be a throwaway character in the film actually turned out to be one of the best parts, causing fans to ask more about his history, and whether or not we’ll be seeing the rock warrior again.

Well, there’s good news here. While there hasn’t been confirmation as to whether or not Korg will officially appear again in the MCU, the rich history of his character, both in the comics and the films, makes it seem as though he’s not going anywhere.

Korg is a Kronan, an ancient race of rock-like beings that have been involved with the Asgardians for some time. If you recall, back in Thor: The Dark World, the great Odinson went toe-to-toe with another Kronan warrior, this one much bigger than Korg, and knocked him out with one swing of the hammer. (Thinking back to this moment actually makes Korg’s conversation about Mjolnir even funnier).

The Kronan also appeared in a small Easter Egg earlier this year in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. During the scene when Rocket and Yondu were jumping through wormholes in their ship, two Kronan were seen fighting on the surface of the planet Ria.

In addition to the rich history of the Kronan in the MCU, Korg actually has some even deeper ties to one Avenger in the pages of Marvel comics. In Planet Hulk, which heavily influenced Thor: Ragnarok, Korg found himself in a similar situation as the one in the film. However, since Thor wasn’t in that story, it was Hulk who Korg befriended. Korg ended up aligning himself with the Incredible Hulk to overthrow the leaders of Sakaar, and he joined the Avenger when he returned to Earth at the conclusion of the story.

If you’re hoping to see Korg again, history says that we’ll probably get the chance over the course of the next couple of movies.
