Filmmaker Max Landis has a potentially daunting task ahead of him, as he’s working to develop a remake of An American Werewolf in London. At New York Comic Con, he teased that, were the project to come to fruition, it would feature plenty of cameos from the original film’s cast.

“Griffin Dunne… what about Jenny Agutter?” Landis teased to Fandom about who could appear in the remake. “Come on, Jenny’s killing it right now. She was in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It made me so excited! Yeah, there’s cameos from ideally literally everyone.”

While hinting at these cameos is sure to get fans excited, Landis made sure to include the disclaimer that his version of the film might not even come to fruition.

“There’s no guarantee that movie will exist but I’m very excited about it,” Landis confessed. “I’m not here to remake American Werewolf in London into something it isn’t, I want to do everything from the original movie modern, and that’s it. I mean, not Gus Van Sant’s Psycho. There will be my stuff in there, but if it exists I hope it’s good.”

The original film was directed by Max’s father John, who attempted to convince his son not to do it, knowing the pressures he would face.

“Truthfully, I’ve not seen his script. I advised him not to do it. I think he’s putting himself in a bad position,” John revealed to Collider earlier this year.

Despite trying to discourage his son, he pointed out this wasn’t a reflection of Max’s skills as a filmmaker.

“My son is brilliant, he really is, and he wants to do it,” Landis admitted. “So what am I going to say? No? I know it won’t be as bad as An American Werewolf In Paris, which was sh*t. So, I don’t know. He’s a great writer. He’s been writing since he was 7. He wrote a whole series of scripts about these characters called Yelp and Dopey, two dumb dogs, when he was under ten. They were so funny.”

Max is remaining hopeful, yet realistic about whether the film will ever come together.

“We’ll see if I can do it. We’ll see if I can pull it off. We’ll see if they even make it,” the filmmaker revealed to IMDb this summer. “My goal is…I feel like all of the best remakes focus on one thing in the original movie, take a lot of the images of the original, and then remix that really tightly. With American Werewolf I’m doing that, but I’m also just gonna try and do American Werewolf as best I can. We’ll see. I can’t make no promises.”
