Bluey Movie Release Date Revealed By Disney (And Fans May Not Be Happy)

Of the many animated franchises that Disney has created in recent years, Bluey has become a juggernaut of popularity in its own right. Bridging the gap between younger and older audiences alike, the franchise has already spawned three seasons and countless pieces of merchandise. Unsurprisingly, the franchise has confirmed that the titular character and their family are receiving their own feature-length film, and Disney has revealed when we can expect the movie to arrive on the silver screen. While story details remain few and far between, the blue heeler puppy and her family are sure to leave an impression on theater-going audiences.

Bluey The Movie will arrive in theaters on August 6th, 2027, confirming that the puppy’s first film will be exclusively a theatrical experience before, most likely, arriving on Disney+. While Bluey has been absent from the small screen since season three’s conclusion, the series has confirmed that a fourth season is in the works to capitalize on the canine’s vast appeal. As for the feature-length film, Disney did release a generic description of what fans can look forward to when Bluey hits cinemas that reads, “Bluey The Movie will continue the adventures of Bluey, a lovable, inexhaustible, blue heeler dog, who lives with her Mum, Dad, and her little sister, Bingo.”

The Bluey Movie’s Big Change

While the television series for the anthropomorphic dog has been portrayed in a traditional 2-D animation style, the upcoming Bluey movie will employ CG animation to bring its story to life. This makes for quite a departure from the original series, and fans have yet to see how Bluey and her family will look using this new aesthetic. Luckily, while the animation style might be different, the movie is set to be brought to life by the creators of the original series, ensuring that the canine’s tale will be kept in the family.

Disney also released an official breakdown of the creative minds that will be bringing the movie to the screen in two years: “Written and directed by Bluey creator Joe Brumm and produced by Ludo Studio in collaboration with BBC Studios, the CG-animated feature is produced by Amber Naismith and co-directed by Richard Jeffery (Bluey, Series 1–3). Joe Brumm is the executive producer, alongside Justine Flynn for BBC Studios, with Charlie Aspinwall and Daley Pearson from Ludo Studio. For Disney, the film will be overseen by David Greenbaum, president of Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios, and his team.”

For those who are looking to know what the future holds for Bluey, looking back to her season three finale episodes might be the best way to do so. In the penultimate episode, “The Sign,” Bluey and her family almost move from their beloved home, only to realize that they would simply miss it too much to depart. In “Surprise!”, the final season three episode, Bluey fans are given a surprising twist as the series shows us the titular character in the future with a family of her own.
