When it comes time to debate the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s best character, it’s hard to look further than the franchise’s trinity. Iron Man is the man responsible for it all, and while he makes mistakes along the way, he always steps up to the plate when times get tough, including when he gives his life to save the universe from the Mad Titan’s wrath. Thor also has his moments. Despite losing just about everyone he loves, he never forgets about his duty to protect the Nine Realms. However, both Iron Man and Thor have real stiff competition in the form of Steve Rogers, aka Captain America.

As soon as he walks into that enlistment office in Captain America: The First Avenger, it’s clear that Steve has all the makings of a great hero. It takes having a serum injected into him to give him the chance to prove it, but he doesn’t let anyone down. Here are seven Captain America quotes from the MCU that confirm what everyone else already knows about him.
7) “Earth Just Lost Her Best Defender, So We’re Here to Fight.” (Avengers: Infinity War)

Captain America is on the run at the start of Avengers: Infinity War, trying to evade the very government he put his life on the line for in World War II. The Black Order’s arrival on Earth puts the Sokovia Accords feud on the back burner, though, so the Secret Avengers return to their former home in upstate New York. When they arrive, Cap explains to Secretary Thunderbolt Ross that, with Iron Man gone, he’s ready to step up and fight anyone in his way.
6) “So No Matter What, I Promise You, If You Need Us – If You Need Me – I’ll Be There.” (Captain America: Civil War)

Tony Stark is shocked to learn that Bucky Barnes is responsible for his parents’ deaths in Captain America: Civil War and that Steve knew about it. A fight breaks out, and while nobody loses their life, friendships are shattered. Despite the beef between them, Steve reaches out to Tony via a letter and explains that he will still be in his corner if another world-ending threat arrives.
5) “The Price of Freedom Is High, It Always Has Been. And It’s a Price I’m Willing to Pay.” (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)

Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s bombshell revelation that HYDRA has been infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D. prompts Cap to reevaluate his place in the world. There isn’t too much time to sulk, though, because Project Insight is about to launch and kill countless people. Cap sneaks into the Triskelion and delivers a speech for the ages, rallying any S.H.I.E.L.D. agents still loyal to the cause to stand up and fight.
4) “I Don’t Want to Kill Anyone. I Don’t Like Bullies; I Don’t Care Where They’re From.” (Captain America: The First Avenger)

As Dr. Abraham Erskine searches for someone to use his super soldier serum on, the government presents him with several worthwhile candidates. However, almost all of them are out for glory. The one person who is doing it for everyone but himself is Steve, who explains to Erskine that he just wants to help the little guy.
3) “This Isn’t Just About Beating Him: It’s About Whether He’s Right.” (Avengers: Age of Ultron)

Ultron pushes Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to the edge in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The AI doesn’t believe that humanity is worth saving and that the Avengers are a shining example of the world’s problems. As the team heads to Sokovia, Cap takes Ultron’s words to heart and makes sure his allies feel the gravity of the situation.
2) “Avengers… Assemble!” (Avengers: Endgame)

There is nothing that the MCU loves more than good payoff. Despite teasing Cap’s most iconic line from the comics multiple times, the franchise waits until the perfect moment during Avengers: Endgame to unleash it. When the entire MCU unites to face off against Thanos and his army, Cap rallies the troops by making all of them Avengers.
1) “I Can Do This All Day.” (Multiple MCU Movies)

Steve probably never imagined, while hanging out in Brooklyn, that he would have multiple chances to save the world. Fortunately, he is the one in those tough spots because he never backs down. On a couple of occasions, he lets his opponent know that they aren’t in for an easy fight, which is the mark of a great hero.
