Earlier this month, Harry Potter fans finally learned which British superstar would bring a young Dumbledore to life on-screen. Reports surfaced that Jude Law had been cast as the sagely wizard. The actor will debut his take on the character in Fantastic Beasts 2, and the sequel will follow the character before he takes over as Hogwart’s headmaster. Now, Law is breaking his silence on the casting, and the star says the next thing on his to-do list is meet with J.K. Rowling.

In an interview with BBC London, Law told the site he was rehearsing for the play Obsession when he discovered he nabbed the role of Dumbledore. When Law was asked whether his character would be seen romancing Gellert Grindelwald, the star said there’s still a lot about the character he’s still figuring out at the moment.
“My first port of call I hope is to meet JK Rowling and to talk exactly about that and who he is and who she wants him to be and learn a little bit more about her vision of this great man as a young man,” he said.
Law will work closely with the famed author and director David Yates in coming up with Dumbledore’s younger self. When the actor’s casting was confirmed, the director said he has long admired Law and looks forward to working with him.
“I’ve long admired and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life,” Yates gushed.
